The Rapid Rise Door has, over recent years, become an essential alternative to conventional industrial doors, in areas where controlling environmental conditions is paramount.

In contrast to traditional alternatives, the characteristic "Fast Action" of this product enables minimal energy loss due to its brief opening and closing cycle. In theory, the door only needs to be open when in use.

Upon application to busy traffic doorways, a Rapid Rise Door will help to:
Eliminate draughts
Restrict heat loss
Sustain ambient temperatures
Maintain levels of hygiene
Reduce contamination due to the ingress of vermin and pests
Reduce noise levels to that of a safe working level
Improve the flow of traffic to busy doorways
And most importantly, save money on energy costs.

Rapid Rise Doors can be applied to a various array of internal or external situations including: factories, warehouses, workshops, food processing areas, airports, supermarkets, hospitals, loading bays, vehicle enclosures, conveyors or indeed anywhere that requires quick access with least disruption.

Standard Safety Features

Safety is of paramount importance in any fast action rapid roll door. The following safety features are fitted as standard on every Rapid Rise Door:

A photocell unit with reflector is housed within a protective mild steel unit that is fitted to the face of the vertical door quadrants. Should traffic remain within the opening for any given period of time the door will not close for as long as the beam is broken.

Photocell

The weighted bottom bar gives tension to the curtain and rigidity at the bottom. This is secured to the bottom of the fabric curtain and is constructed from a galvanised profile section with a pneumatic touch sensitive rubber extrusion housed inside a durable yellow floor sweep seal. An electronic air switch monitors for impact and will automatically stop and return the door to the open position, should the door close upon any obstruction.

Bottom bar

To minimise costly repairs to the curtain and bottom rail in the event of the door being hit, 'sacrificial' nylon break out tails, which run up and down, within the vertical quadrants are fitted. These nylon blocks snap on impact and greatly reduce the amount of damage suffered in that situation.

Door Curtain Options

The fabric of the door curtain is 100% decay proof, anti-static and abrasion resistant and remains laterally taut due to the extremely durable, tear resistant, complex interlocking layered weave of polyester monofilament fibre.

A polyurethane colour impregnation to both sides of the curtain affords the following standard shades from our range:
Flame Red
Trafalgar Blue
Alert Orange

Other colours from the B54800 range are obtainable dependent upon availability and quantity.

As an option, a full width, 3mm thick, clear flexible PVC vision strip, 800mm deep, with fabric reinforced ends can be incorporated within the door panel. Alternatively, where full vision is required an all clear PVC curtain with red marking strips can be supplied upon request.

Door Specification

Roller Assembly
The roller assembly is fabricated from an ERW steel tube with fixed drive and plain ends. Heavy duty, low maintenance, flange bearing units are used for supporting the roller assembly at each end. The entire roller assembly can be concealed within a mild steel canopy, powder coated blue, RAL 5005 as standard. We do not use problem weights, chain drive units or spring tensioning systems which stretch, lose tension, require adjustment or even break which means costly repairs and long periods of down time where the doors are inoperable and costing you money!

Quadrant Guides
The main vertical structure is of heavy duty mild steel box and folded section which gives stability and strength. A reinforcement plate is welded at high level for additional rigidity to the motor drive unit. The quadrants are powder coated blue, RAL 5005 as standard. A minimum 400mm headroom and 200mm clearance each side of the opening is required to enable fixing of the Rapid Rise Door. We do not use complex bracketry to support our vertical quadrants, our door is self-supporting, only requiring floor fitting and anchoring to the wall.

Motor Operation
The drive unit is a high torque hollow shaft with worm gear and brake assembly complete with limit switches for the open and close cycle. The three phase unit is supplied in a foot mounted fixing arrangement on rubber bushes to minimise door vibration during operation.

Control System
The technologically advanced inverter drive control panel has been designed to operate the variable speed changes of the motor unit. When the door is actuated it starts to open at slow speed and quickly accelerates to high speed, deceleration to slow speed occurs at the end of the opening cycle so that a smooth opening sequence is achieved. After an adjustable time period the door will enter its closing cycle and descend for the full height in slow speed for additional safety.

Each Rapid Rise Door opens at approximately one metre per second in the opening cycle, and closes at approximately 0.5 metres per second in the closing cycle. This is adjustable to suit the site conditions. On the front of the control panel there are actuation controls and an emergency stop button. The door requires a single phase neutral and earth power supply rated at 20 amps.

Actuation Devices

Push Buttons
Inexpensive and simple to use, once activated the door will open. After the adjustable time relay (A.T.R) has elapsed, the door will close automatically.

Pull Switch
Similar to push buttons, they are inexpensive and simple to use. This type of actuation eliminates the need for drivers to dismount when negotiating the opening.

Photocell
This actuation comprises of an electronically operated projector on one side and a reflector directly opposite. Pedestrian/traffic using the opening breaks the beam which actuates the door on the A.T.R. system. Photocell actuation is ideal in corridor situations.

Induction Loop
A magnetic loop detector is set into the floor on the approach to the opening at a distance to suit site conditions. Once a vehicle moves onto the loop, the door is actuated on the A.T.R. system. Ideal for openings that are subject to heavy or regular fork-lift use.

Radar
The scanner unit is fitted the to face of the opening and detects a pedestrian/vehicles approach to the opening which actuates the door on the A.T.R. system.

Radio Control
A hand held/vehicle mounted transmitter emits a signal to an aerial which actuates the door on the A.T.R. system. Limits the use of the doors to the transmitter holders only.

Optional Extras

1 Wind Bar
A smooth profile 75mm diameter aluminium tube with machined nylon end rollers can be incorporated into the Rapid Rise Door to give additional wind resistance for openings subjected to strong wind pressures or extraction.

2 Additional Safety Features
Traffic lights and audible sirens can be fitted in conjunction with our standard safety features.

3 Interlocking Doors
Airlock situations may arise whereby one door must remain closed while the other is open. This is easily handled by our advanced control equipment.

4 Supporting steelwork
Our in-house design team can accommodate almost every situation if fitting within the opening is obscure.

5 Installation
our highly skilled and experienced installation teams can undertake all aspects of your fitting requirements from special bracketry to full on-site wiring and commissioning.

The Benefits
The exact cost effective benefits of installing one of our Rapid Rise Doors are very difficult to ascertain as there are so many contributing factors that must be taken into account, especially when deciding which type of Rapid Rise Door you require: Location; Application; Size of Doorway; Number of Operations; Opening Speeds; Time Delay of Automatic Return etc. However, it is proven that our design of door reduces the exposure of each opening to a bare minimum, as we attempt to ensure that the door is only open when access is required. This, together with our highly competitive pricing policy, constant dedication to service and continuing product research and development has enabled us to secure regular repeat orders from many large household name customers. Remember, not only are your heating bills reduced, but the working environment for both yourselves and your employees is enhanced which increases comfort and productivity.
